How to begin making money from SoundCloud
As you know, SoundCloud have begun to roll out monetisation for music on its service via an advertising system, similar to the free tier on Spotify. This is called On SoundCloud.
Currently this is only supported for music streamed in the US, though it’s likely to be live in the UK towards the end of the year. If you have requested your SoundCloud channel to be whitelisted using our form, then you can now set your tracks to be monetised.
For tracks live on SoundCloud already:
SoundCloud can only set tracks to be monetised if they have cleared and validated the publishing information. So…
- You will need to provide SoundCloud with the ISRC, and if you have it, publishing information for each track.
- Once publishing information has been verified, you will be notified by SoundCloud that your track can be monetised.
Note: Publishing clearance can take a minimum of 48 hours based on the publishing information supplied – self published tracks can take significantly longer.
For new tracks:
- Select ‘Monetization’ when uploading a new track, supplying the ISRC and other publishing information when you do so.
- New tracks set to be monetised will be placed on hold in America until the publishing information has been cleared.
Note: You can set your track to private initially during the clearance process, until SoundCloud notify you that publishing has been cleared to ensure it is available in all territories simultaneously.
