Victoria and Jacob return with another single from their self-titled debut album, out on Fika Recordings this week. “Theia Mania” is the opening track off the album and has been remixed by a handful of artists.
“Theia Mania” is about love at first sight and the breaking down of reality when you realise the relationship was all based on desire. The song elegantly showcases Victoria Harrison’s lilting vocals, Jacob Mayfield’s production wizardry, and the duo’s way with creating a fine pop tune.
The first remix out the door is by Haiku Salut (winners of the recent Green Man Rising competition which led them to appear on the main stage of the festival). Other remixes appear courtesy of San Francisco duo Silver Swans whose new album ‘Touch’ is out later this year. Also included in the remix package are a further selection of contrasting reworks from The Leaf Library, Hardy Tree, Simon Fox, Kraflaesque and Soundhog.
“On the opener,“Theia Mania”, Harrison’s vocals retain the same wearily non-committal vibe of the xx’s Romy Madley-Croft and Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn, while elsewhere the electronic arrangements echo those of Pet Shop Boys and Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory.” – Uncut
“What is perhaps most remarkable for a debut album is its confidence, with a consistency throughout and the sense of a band that is influenced by the likes of Fleeetwood Mac, Everything But the Girl and Saint Etienne but prepared to wrap them up with their own distinct voice. One of the best debut albums of the year.” – Neon Filler
