Analogous Doom – Five Cube Compound [Mystery Plays Records]

Hailing from the Midwest USA Analogous Doom, aka Vanna Carr, has quietly and enigmatically been gaining a faithful following, along with respectful nods from her contemporaries since 2008′s ‘Living in a Zome’ EP.  The EP was released on the Chicago based Mathematics label curated by Jamal Moss (Hieroglyphic Being). AD’s darkly cinematic compositions combined with Carr’s reclusive nature and reluctance to perform live has built up a feverish air of mystery around the artist.

Born out of teenage musical experimentation and a desire to forge sonic shapes away from guitar music, Carr laid the foundations for Analogous Doom in her home studio, surrounding herself with vintage gear:

At about age 14 I became interested in electronic music. Mostly I tinkered with shoddy equipment, until I saved up enough for my first synth, a Roland Juno-60 and for a while collecting vintage equipment became an obsession. At that time I found a lot of inspiration in Aphex Twin‘s ‘Selected Ambient Works’, and later the name Drexciya fell into my lap, then James Stinson and Gerald Donald; both at the forefront of my inspiration”.
